1992 Rather wet. Dry Winter, Wet late Summer and Autumn
In the year that Michael Schumacher won the first of his 91 Formula One Grand Prix victories, Slovenia and Croatia gained independence from Yugoslavia. and the Conservative Party, under John Major, was elected to govern the Uk for the 4th consecutive term. In the music world, Shakespears Sister spent 8 weeks at number 1 in the UK charts with their record 'Stay'.
Weather Notes:-
March 14th - Heavy snow in northern Scotland with the temperature at Lerwick (Shetland) remaining below minus 3°C. all day.
May 14th - Maximum temperature 29°C. in Edinburgh. 
December 16th - Around 45cm of level snow at Aviemore (Highland).

January Very dry, fairly sunny with temperatures close to normal.

The first 9 days of the year were rather cloudy and changeable, although amounts of rain were mostly small. It was generally mild or very mild and frost-free. On the 5th, the temperature rose above 13°C. From the 10th until the end of the month pressure remained high and  most of the period stayed dry.  There was mist and fog, and several frosty nights. On the 12th it was foggy all day with a high of 1.9°C.
 
February - Very dry, rather mild and dull.

The opening 2 days of the month were dull, misty and cold. On the 2nd, the temperature failed to rise above 1.8°C.  It then became mild and unsettled until mid month. Amounts of rain were generally small, and from the 15th to the 26th there was no significant rain, There were several night frosts during a colder interlude after mid month, but there were some milder days during the last week, and on the 29th the high was 14.5°C.

March - Very dull, rather mild with rainfall slightly above normal.

In this very cloudy month, only 1 slight frost occurred, and the lack of sunshine generally kept daytime temperatures depressed. However, on the 19th, milky sun helped to lift the temperature to 16°C. The coldest and wettest weather of the month occurred during the last 10 days, and from the 23rd to the end of the month the temperature only rose above 10°C. twice. The 27th was the coldest day with a high of 8.2°C.
 
April - Rather dull with temperatures and rainfall slightly above normal

The first week was rather cold and changeable, but clear skies on the night of the 4th/5th produced the only air frost of the month. The second week was much warmer, sunnier and drier with highs from 17 to 19°C. A short-lived cool and very unsettled spell occurred around mid month, with nearly 13mm of rain falling on the 14th. After another week of warmer weather from the 17th,  the end of April was somewhat cooler and unsettled. 
  
May - Very sunny, warm but wet

The first 14 days of May were unsettled with variable temperatures, and on the 9th nearly 15mm of rain fell.  There was ground frost on 3 nights, with a high only 12.2°C on the 2nd. From the 13th the high was only below 20°C. on 3 occasions and 9 days above 25°C. It was dry from the 16th and the 27th with plenty of sun. Heavy rain and thunderstorms on the 28th and 29th produced a 2-day rainfall total of more than 39mm.
 
June - Rather warm and dry with slightly above average sunshine amounts.

The opening 10 days of June were rather cloudy and changeable,  and on the 5th the maximum was only 14.9°C.  No rain fell between the 11th and 18th, and the temperature reached 28.3°C. on the 15th. Cool and cloudy northeast winds occurred during the third week. On the 19th, thundery showers produced more than 13mm of rain with a high of 14.8°C.  From the 20th it was mostly warm, and on the 29th the high was 29°C. 
    
July - Dull and wet with temperatures close to normal.

The first fortnight of July was mostly cool and changeable. On the 3rd, nearly 26mm of rain fell and the top temperature was only 17°C.. During the first 2 weeks, the maximum temperature was below 20°C. on 8 occasions, but from the 15th until the end of the month there were no maxima under 20°C. O{n the 31st the high was 28.3°C. It was mainly dry, but  thunderstorms on the evening of the 20th produced more than 37mm of rain. 

August - Wet and rather dull and cool.

 Monthly Lowest  7.8°C Total Sun 149 hrs

The temperature rose to 27.4°C. on the 1st, but there was only 1 further occasion during this changeable month when the maximum exceeded 25°C. Less than 1 millimetre of rain fell during the first week, but after the 7th there was only 1 completely dry day during the remainder of the month. Daily rainfall exceeded 10mm on 3 occasions, including over 23mm on the 13th when the temperature only  rose to 16.3°C.
 
September - Rather cool, wet and dull.

Early September was mostly changeable and cool, but  much of the rain was light. The temperature only exceeded 20°C. twice during the first 15 days, and on the 13th the high was 15.3°C.  Temperatures were a little higher later in the month, and on the 26th a high of 24.1°C occurred,  1 of 8 occasions when 20°C was reached. Heavy downpours occurred during the last 2 weeks, including nearly 33mm of rain on the 22nd. 
 
October - Cold with above average sunshine and near normal rainfall.

 Monthly Lowest -2.1°C Total Sun 114 hrs

There was some mild weather during the first 10 days of October, and on the 2nd the temperature climbed above 18°C alrthough nearly 15mm of rain fell. Between the 4th and the 13th rainfall totalled less than 0.5mm. The second half of October was very unsettled with only 1 completely dry day.. On the 19th, nearly 25mm of rain fell. After a maximum of only 9.2°C. on the 16th, the following night produced  the first of 3 air frosts. 
  
November - Wet and rather mild with sunshine amounts close to average.

 Monthly Lowest -1.5°C Total Sun 62 hrs

The opening week was mostly mild, and dry apart from the fiirst 2 days. On both the 5th and 6th the temperature were above 16°C. The second and third weeks were changeable and rather cold or cold with some slight frosts. On the 14th the temperature only reached 7.1°C.. From the 21st until the end of the month it was generally somewhat milder, but it stayed unsettled and on the 25th over 22mm of rain fell, 
 
December - Rather cold and dry with sunshine amounts slightly above normal.

Early December was very mild and on the 2nd the temperature rose to 13.5°C. A thunderstorm on the morning of the 3rd gave 8mm of rain, but much of the rain during the month was light. From the 20th onwards there was no significant rain. Temperatures were mostly on the mild side of average until the 18th,  but after rain turned to sleet on the 19th it became rather cold or cold . On the 30th, the maximum temperature was 1.8°C.
