The early part of this very changeable month was quite cold and on the 1st the maximum temperature was only 6.3°C. Frost occurred during this rather cold spell, with the minimum temperature on the night of the 3rd/4th close to minus 2°C. There was too much cloud and wind for frequent frosts, and the temperatures tended to rise as the month progressed. Heavy rain occurred on 15th with 18mm falling, but on the 22nd the temperature rose above 16°C.

April - Dull, cold and rather dry.

In this very cloudy month, rain fell frequently but amounts were mostly small. However, on the 10th nearly 11mm of rain was recorded. Cloud cover helped to keep the nights free of air frost, and night-time temperatures were only a little below average.  The best of the weather occurred around the middle of the month, and on the 13th the maximum temperature rose above 17°C. However, after a sunny day on the 15th, the best temperature on the 19th was only 7.0°C.

On the second day of the month over 5 mm of rain fell but there were only 7 more occasions when significant rain fell during May. There was plenty sunshine during the first 3 weeks, and there were a few pleasantly warm days, although a chilly northeast wind often blew. At the end of the third week, cold northerlies led to ground frost and on the 21st the highest temperature was only 10.3°C, The last week of May was warmer with a maximum on the 29th above 26°C.

After a fairly warm start, the first week of June turned very cool and wet. On the 5th over 29mm of rain was recoededl, and on the 6th the maximum temperature was only 11.3°C. There were some cool nights in the early part of the month with minima below 10°C. Nearly 24mm of rain fell on the 1st, and generally the first week of July was rather cool and unsettled. On the 4th the maximum temperature was 19,8°C, the only day with a high below 20°C. A warm spell commenced on the 6th and this then lasted until mid month. On the 8th, the maximum temperature was over 27°C. A short spell of rather cool and changeable weather began during the third week, although the last week of July became mostly fine and warm.

 Mean Temperature  16.1°C
Monthly Highest  23.4°C   Total Rain   71 mm
Monthly Lowest   7.3°C  Total Sun  167 hrs

There were no very warm days during this disappointing summer month. It was often breezy, but although generally unsettled, rainfall was mostly light. However, afternoons were frequently cloudy and maximum  temperatures struggled to rise above 20°C. On the 14th, the high was above 23°C, but in a decidedly autumnal last week to August, there were 20mm of rain recorded on the 29th, and on the 30th the afternoon temperature failed to rise above 15.1°C.

September - Cool, rather dry and dull.
 Mean Temperature  13.5°C
Monthly Highest  22.2°C   Total Rain   44 mm
Monthly Lowest   5.0°C  Total Sun  112 hrs

In a month when temperatures were disappointing again, the 3rd was the only day when the maximum temperature exceeded 22°C. After a sunny day on the 8th, nearly 10mm of rain was measured on the 9th, and then the weather became generally cooler but with several dry and bright days. On the night of the 14th/15th the minimum temperature fell to 5°C, and in a generally cool end to September the maximum temperature on the 25th was only 12.9°C.

 Mean Temperature   7.3°C
Monthly Highest  14.4°C   Total Rain   31 mm

There was plenty of dry weather during this persistently cool October. Most unusually, the temperature failed to rise above 15°C all month. The mildest day was the 9th. There were some sunny days around the middle of the month, and several frosty nights occured later in October. On the 25th, the maximum temperature only rose to 7.7°C, with a sharp frost occurring on the following night. The end of the month was wet with nearly 15mm of rain falling on the 30th.

November - Cold and rather wet with above average sunshine.
 Mean Temperature   5.2°C
Monthly Highest  12.5°C   Total Rain  79 mm
Monthly Lowest  -5.3°C  Total Sun  57 hrs

Although the month was changeable, there were several clear and frosty nights, especially during the last 10 days, and on the night of the 20th/21st,  and the following night,  the temperature dipped below minus 5°C. The heaviest rain mostly occurred early in November and on the 11th over 14mm fell. On the 17th, the temperature only reached 2.6°C, but in this cold month there were some mild days during the last week with a maximum above 12°C. on the 26th.

December - Dull, dry and rather cold.
 Mean Temperature   4.8°C
Monthly Highest  13.8°C   Total Rain  19 mm
Monthly Lowest  -2.2°C  Total Sun  21 hrs

Pressure was high through much of this month, but a persistent layer of cloud restricted the amount of sunshine, and also prevented the nights from becoming frosty. However, early in December it was more changeable. After the passage of a warm front on the 7th, the afternoon temperature rose close to 14°C., and nearly 7mm of rain was measured as the following cold front cleared through. Fog and frost then developed with a maximum of only 0.3°C. on the 11th.
