Weather in South London during June 2015
Very dry, in a month of variable temperatures.

The average maximum temperature during June 2015 was 21.3 Celsius (70F), and that was 0.5 Celsius (1F) above normal. The average minimum temperature was 10.5 Celsius (51F), and that was 0.9 Celsius (1.5F) below the monthly normal.  

The highest temperature recorded  was 29.2 Celsius (85F) on the 30th, and this was the highest in June for 4 years. There were no other days with maxima above 26 Celsius (79F), but on 3 days, the 12th, 26th and 29th, highs exceeded 25 Celsius (77F). The highest temperatures generally occurred during the second half of the month, with only 2 days after mid month having maxima below 20 Celsius (68F). Prior to mid month, there were 9 of these cooler days, although only 3 had highs below 18 Celsius (64F). The 14th had a maximum temperature of 17.8 Celsius (64F), but the other 2 days were considerably cooler. On the 9th a high of 15.2 Celsius (59F) occurred, but the coolest day of the month was the 1st with a top temperature of just 14.7 Celsius (59F).

There were no warm nights during June, in fact there were only 8 nights when minimum temperatures were above 12 Celsius (54F). On 3 of these milder nights minima were above 14 Celsius (57F), including the 27th/28th when the temperature failed to fall below 15.1 Celsius (59F). There were several chilly early summer nights, and on 11 nights the temperature dipped below 10 Celsius (50F). Only 3 of these cooler nights occurred after mid month, although the night of the 15th/16th was decidedly chilly with a low 6.4 Celsius (43F). Each of the 6 consecutive nights between the 6th and 11th had minima below 10 Celsius (50F), including a low of 5.3 Celsius (41F) on the 6th/7th. However, the coolest night of the month was the 3rd/4th when a minimum temperature of 4,9 Celsius (41F) was recorded.   


There were no air frosts during June and no grass frosts occurred. The lowest grass temperatures were 1.0 Celsius (34F) on the night of the 6th/7th, with 1.3 Celsius (34F) logged on the 3rd/4th.    


A total of 14.9 millimetres (0.6 in.) of rain fell during June,  and this was only around 30% of the long-term average. It was the driest June in Morden for 19 years. There were 7 days with significant*  rain and this was 5 below average, and there were 4 wet** days during June and that was also 5 days below average for the month.  Rain fell on the 1st, but the total was less than 1 millimetre (0.04 ins), and although thundery rain fell early on the 4th, only just over 1 millimetre (0.04 ins) was measured. The next significant rain fell on the 12th, and although this was again thundery in nature, the total was a mere 0.5 millimetres (0.02 ins). Thus, the first half of June yielded less than 3 millimetres (0.1 ins) of rain. An unsettled spell at the end of the third week gave over 10 millimetres (0.4 ins) of rain between the 20th and 22nd, including 6.6 millimetres (0.25 ins) on the 21st. The only other measurable rain during June fell on the afternoon of the 28th, but it only amounted to 0.3 millimetres (0.01 ins).

*Significant rain is defined as one that has 0.2mm or more. ** A wet day is defined as one that has 1mm, or more, of rain 


The only thunderstorms to occur in June were heard in the early hours of the 5th, but they were slight, and although there were several flashes of lightning occurred, only 2 rumbles of  thunder were detected.      


No hail was observed in Morden during June. 


No sleet or snow was observed in Morden during June.


Although southwesterly winds were dominant, accounting for around half of the daily observations, there were a significant number of days with northeasterly winds, especially during the second week; and during the third week there were several days when northwesterly winds predominated. On most days the wind was gentle or moderate but the northeasterly breeze was fresh at times during the second week. On 9 days there were gusts exceeding 20 knots (23 mph) but with only 3 of these breezier days occurring after mid month. The 1st and 2nd were the only 2 days to have gusts in excess of 25 knots (29 mph), with speeds of 28 knots (32 mph) and 32 knots (37 mph) respectively.


No fog was observed in the Morden area during June.
