Weather in London during October 2015
A dry month with no extremes of temperature.

The average maximum temperature during October 2015 was 15.8 Celsius (60F), and that was normal for the month. The average minimum temperature was 8.0 Celsius (46F), and that was 0.4 Celsius (<1F) below  the monthly normal.  

The highest temperature recorded in October was 19.4 Celsius (67F) on the 2nd and 6th. There were 6 other days when the temperature rose above 17 Celsius (63F), with 3 of these warmer days occurring during the first week, and with 3 occurring in the last week of the month. The only other day with a high above 19 Celsius (66F) was the 27th with a maximum of 19.2 Celsius (67F). There were no particularly cool days in October, although on 8 days the temperature failed to reach 14 Celsius (57F). On 5 consecutive days, between the 13th and 17th, maxima were below 14 Celsius,(57F), but the 15th, with a high of 12.9 Celsius (55F), was the only day during this spell when the temperature remained below 13 Celsius (55F). In fact, there was only 1 other day with a high below 13 Celsius (55F), and that was the 25th when the maximum struggled to 12.6 Celsius (55F).

There were no exceptionally mild nights during October, although the minimum temperature on the 5th/6th was 14.3 Celsius (58F). The following night was mild, too, with a low of 13.7 Celsius (57F). These were the only 2 nights with minima above 12 Celsius (54F), although on 9 further nights minimum temperatures stayed above 10 Celsius (50F). There were no especially cold nights during November, but on 8 occasions minima were below 5 Celsius (41F). On 2 nights the temperature dipped below 3 Celsius (37F), but the low on the 8th/9th was just 2.9 Celsius (37F). The coldest night of the month was the 24th/25th when a temperature of 1.9 Celsius (36F) was recorded.   


There were no air frosts during October but grass frost occurred on 5 nights, and that's 1 below average. On 4 nights the grass temperature fell to between 0 and minus 1 Celsius (30-32F), but on the night of the 24th/25th a grass minimum of minus 1.7 Celsius (29F) was measured.    


A total of 37.8 millimetres (1.5 ins.) of rain fell during October,  and this was almost  50% below the long-term average. There were 11 days with significant*  rain and this was 4 below average, and there were 7 wet** days during October and that was also 4 days below average for the month. The first 4 days of the month were dry but a short wet spell yielded over 11 millimetres (0.4 ins.) over 4 days, including 7.5 millimetres (0.3 ins.) on the 5th, a particularly dull and damp day. No measurable rain fell between the 8th and 17th, but although the remainder of the month was unsettled, there were several dry days between rainy spells. Much of the rain was light,  but on 2 days there were totals above 5 millimetres (0.2 ins.) On the 20th, nearly 6 millimetres (0.25 ins.) was measured, but the highest fall was accredited  to the 27th rainfall day, due to heavy rain early on the 28th. The total was 8.6 millimetres (0.35 ins.).

*Significant rain is defined as one that has 0.2mm or more. ** A wet day is defined as one that has 1mm, or more, of rain 


There were no thunderstorms in Morden during October.      


No hail was observed in Morden during October. 


No sleet or snow was observed in Morden during October.


Unusually, winds from the southwest  accounted for less than 15% of the month readings. The majority of wind direction reports were from a southeasterly direction, with most of these occurring in the first and last weeks of the month. There was a significant minority of winds from between northeast and northwest, with winds from these directions mostly occurring around the middle of the month. The winds were much lighter than those usually associated with a mid-autumn month, and gusts only exceeded 20 knots (23 mph) on 3 days. On each of these days, the 16th, 24th and 30th gusts reached 21 knots (24 mph).


No fog was observed in the Morden area during October.
