1950 Rather Sunny, with a Fairly Cool, but Sunny, Summer.
In the year that the Korean War began, the first ever Formula One World Championship motor race was staged at Silverstone, and The Peak District became Britain's first National Park.
Weather Notes:-
25th/26th April - Heavy snow affected parts of South and Southeast England. Surrey and North Kent were worst affected with 15cm of level snow and 45cm in drifts. Severe damage occurred to trees and over 1000 telegraph poles were brought down.
21st May - Tornado, lasting over 2 hours, caused much damage to property and transport along a path from Buckinghamshire,  to East Anglia east of Peterborough.
15th December - 25 to 30cm of snow measured in parts of Hampshire, Dorset, Isle of Wight, and at several places along the English east coast.

January Very dull, dry and rather mild.

The first fortnight of January was mostly mild or very mild and generally cloudy. On the 3rd, the temperature exceeded 12°C. After mid month, the weather remained mostly dry, with near average temperatures and a few sunny intervals. During the last week, it became much colder for a while, with a little snow. On the 29th, the temperature only reached 0.1°C. At the end of the month it became milder and changeable. On the 31st, over 18mm of rain fell.

February - Very wet and mild with above average sunshine.

The first 3 weeks of February were mild or very mild and unsettled. On the 2nd, over 11mm of rain fell and on the 17th the temperature rose above 14°C. During the last week the weather turned much colder and there were several frosty nights with sunshine and wintry showers by day. On the 27th, the maximum temperature was only 5.2°C. The following night was frosty with the minimum temperature below minus 4°C., but on the 28th it was sunny all day. 

March - Dry, mild and sunny.

The beginning of March was dry and sunny, but cold. On the 1st, after an overnight frost, the afternoon temperature only reached 7.0°C. The last air frost of the Spring occurred on the following night, and it then became milder. On the 8th, the temperature rose above 16°C., and although it then became cooler, there were further spells of sunshine. The first rain of the month fell on the 14th, and in this snow-free month, nearly 3mm of rain was measured on the 18th.

April - Rather cold and wet with slightly above average sunshine.

The first 3 weeks of April were changeable with a mixture of bands of rain and sunshine and showers. Generally temperatures were below normal. On the 21st, the maximum was 18°C., but during the last week of April it became much colder. On the 25th, the maximum temperature was only 7.4°C. Early on the 26th, rain turned to heavy sleet and wet snow for a while, with nearly 24mm measured, but the snow quickly thawed and the end of the month became milder. 

May - Below average sunshine and slightly below normal temperatures and rainfall.

The first 2 weeks of May were rather changeable with temperatures not far from average. There were lengthy spells of sunshine between rain bands, and on the 13th it was sunny all day. It was cooler for a while after mid month, and on the 16th the maximum temperature was only 11.0°C. However, it became warm at the end of the third week, and on the 21st the temperature almost reached 24°C. It remained fairly unsettled, and on 25th over 11mm of rain fell.

June - Warm and sunny with slightly above average rainfall.

There was an unsettled start to June, and on the 2nd, nearly 13mm of rain was recorded. Several very warm and sunny days followed, and on the 5th the afternoon temperature approached 30°C. The second week was somewhat cooler, but it was often sunny. On the 10th, it was sunny all day, but on the 14th the maximum temperature was only 16.3°C. After mid month, although it was not completely settled, there was plenty of warm, dry and sunny weather.

July - Rather sunny but wet with below average temperatures.

The beginning of the month was very changeable, and on the 3rd, nearly 23mm of rain fell with a maximum temperature of only 15.9°C. Later in the first week it became much warmer, and the afternoon temperature on the 9th exceeded 27°C. It became cooler towards mid month, and the weather for the remainder of July was rather unsettled. Nevertheless, although there were no very warm days, it was pleasant at times, and on the 27th it was sunny all day.

August - Above average sunshine and rainfall, and below normal temperatures.

There were some warm and sunny days early in the month, and the 4th was sunny all day. On the 6th, the temperature reached 27°C. Mainly fine weather continued until mid month but it then became generally cooler and more unsettled. On the 17th, the temperature only reached 17.3°C. Much of the rainfall during August was light but a changeable end to the month was accompanied by some heavier rain. On the 31st, over 17mm of rain was recorded.

September - Rather wet and cool with below average sunshine.

There was some rather warm and sunny weather during the first week, and on both the 1st and 4th the maximum temperature was above 21°C. At the end of the first week it became cooler, unsettled and breezy, and this cooler weather then lasted for the rest of the month. There were only 8 days during September with no measurable rain, and although much of the rain was light, nearly 10mm fell on the 24th. On the 27th, the highest temperature was only 13.1°C.

October - Very dry with above average sunshine and below average temperatures.

Over 5mm of rain was recorded on the 1st of the month, but much of the first week was dry, sunny and warm. On the 5th, the temperature almost reached 21°C. The rest of October was largely dry with areas of cloud, but also with spells of sunshine. Temperatures were mostly near, or slightly below, normal, but at the end of the month it became cold. There was a frost early on the 28th, and the maximum temperatures on both the 27th and 28th was only 7.3°C.

November - Wet and sunny with below average temperatures.

Most of November was changeable and often windy as Atlantic weather systems regularly crossed the country. Mild and wet weather alternated with cold, and often sunny, conditions. On the 10th, over 23mm of rain was recorded and the temperature almost reached 13°C. There was a colder, drier interlude, with overnight frosts, during the fourth week, and on the 26th the maximum temperature was only 2.4°C. It then became milder, with a high near 13°C. on the 28th.
December - Very cold and dull with below average rainfall.

On the first day of the month there were over 15mm of rain and the temperature reached 11°C.  The following 3 weeks stayed generally unsettled but it became cold at times with precipitation turning to sleet or snow. On the 15th, the temperature only reached 0.7°C. and there were several frosty nights. Some sunshine occurred and there were less cold interludes, but generally the last 10 days of December were very cold with some snow and frosty nights.
